Google trader Nigeria will shut down operations from December 10, 2013. A short statement on google trader reads that the website google.com.ng would be discontinued but no further explanation was given.
Why would google be closing down google trader? Further checks however showed that google trader stopped accepting listings from Monday 11 November 2013. All the current listings will remain until 10 December 2013 so far they have not expired.
Google trader is a free listing website for people to advertise their goods and products for potential customers. Just like Olx.com and tradestable, the platform is a sell it yourself e-commerce site.It has links to buyers under various categories such as vehicles,Kitchen,Home and Gaarden,Computer and software, mobile phones, cameras, business and industrial tools.
However, it has been widely criticized for making itself a tool in the hands of fraudsters who use it to swindle people since anyone can put up fanciful pictures of photos and get unsuspecting members of the public to part with their money.
niyitabiti.net gathered that google is encouraging people to get on its social network site so they can follow its business page.
“We encourage you to create a Google+ Business page by going to http://www.google.com/+/business/. A Google+ Business page is a new online home for your business on Google. It provides your business with a public identity on Google+, and it’s where you connect with customers, develop your brand, and engage your following” a statement posted on google trader help page reads.
