In further confirmation of its leadership position as Africa’s foremost telecommunications company of choice, MTN Nigeria has entered into a strategic partnership with the National health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to launch first-of-its-kind mobile health insurance scheme tagged: MTN Y’ello Health. The aggregator of the partnership is Salt and Einstein
This new scheme was unveiled on Monday 21th of July, 2014, at the Civic Centre, VictoriaIsland, Lagos.
In the words of the Chief Executive Officer, MTN Nigeria, Michael Ikpoki, “the essence of this partnership is to remove the financial barriers to healthcare, giving people unrestricted access to good healthcare without having to pay out-of-pocket. More than bringing flexibility and ease to paying for health care service, health insurance is also a means of providing greater access to healthcare for larger segments of a population” he said.
For MTN subscribers to gain access to pre-defined treatments such as paediatric/antenatal care, minor surgeries, treatment for malaria, typhoid and minor infections, HIV/AIDS & STD management, eye care, family planning and much more, all they need do is to subscribe to the service at the rate of N250 weekly or N1, 000 monthly deductions from the subscribers’ airtime.

The service comes with freedom to choose from a list of over 6000 Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) and health care providers across Nigeria, while the package includes unlimited number of visits to the hospital with treatment value of up to N80, 000 annually.
