Sim Shagaya the founder of Konga, one of Nigeria’s fast moving online shopping websites has revealed that he would soon drag Rocket internet, the parent company of it major competitor in Nigeria,Jumia to court.
According to information gathered by Gistmaster, Shagaya is upset that Rocket Internet bought the domain names related to Konga in 11 African countries so as to deprive it of expansion into those markets in future. For instance in South Africa, the registerer of konga.co.za shows that it is a representative of the German based Rocket Internet Gmbh.
Shagaya, according to information, has tried to get the registerer to release the domain anmes to no avail. He is seriously considering instituting legal actions against Rocket Internet.Shagaya revealed that Rocket Internet had wanted him to merge with Jumia, a proposal, which he turned down.
Konga and Jumia are the two biggest e-commerce companies in Nigeria right now.
When the matter goes to court, the judge would decide whether or not, someone has a monopoly to buy domain names and the ones related to it all over the world. There are people who buy domain names and resell at a huge amount. The case would decide if one can bring legal action against someone for buying domain names related to them or their companies.
